Greens MP backs inner-city council push to increase parking fees for large SUVs and utes

The City of Yarra could become the first municipality in Australia to charge drivers, who own twin-cab utes or large SUV’s with higher parking fees, as a Greens MP says it should be looked at across inner-city Melbourne.

Greens member for Brunswick, Tim Read, says some people genuinely need the car, but some drivers appear to have no reason to be driving these cars.

“They never seem to be carrying anything, I don’t see them carrying a load of furniture or a load of hay … they often seem to be carrying a laptop,” he said.
