Grampians pushes to entice new residents as property prices soar
Despite soaring property prices, a regional Victorian area is pushing for more tree-changers to make the move from Melbourne.
House prices in the Northern Grampians increased by 36 per cent in the year to June.
The median house price in the area is now $363,000, up form $267,000.
But the Grampians Regional Tourism Board is encouraging even more people to the area, with a campaign currently underway to entice more Melburnians to make the move.
Jenny Gumela recently moved from Croydon North to Halls Gap with her family and says they couldn’t be happier.
“A lot of it was a push with COVID, lockdown in particular was pretty hard, I was at home with a new baby and then my husband couldn’t’ work when the construction lockdown came down,” she told Neil Mitchell.
“I was just looking for a new lease on life.”
