The federal government has rejected any suggestion MyGov system has been hacked, urging Australians to always remain vigilant about their personal security and what they share on the internet.

It comes after a woman told Neil Mitchell her data had been stolen from the Australian Tax Office, Medicare and Centrelink, and is now being used by crooks.

She said scammers had applied for credit cards in her name, and threatened to publish her details on the dark web.

Government Services Minister Bill Shorten told Neil Mitchell he’s working to resolve the lady’s situation, but maintains the system is safe.

“I don’t want to scare people unnecessarily,” he said.
