Giants fined $100,000 over Whitfield affair
GWS has been slapped with a $100,000 fine over the Whitfield affair.
The club has also been docked 1,000 draft points.
Former No.1 draft pick Lachie Whitfield hid from drug testers with the help of officials Graeme Allan and Craig Lambert in May last year.
An AFL sub-committee has upheld a charge of conduct unbecoming on Thursday.
The panel found that, while the club’s board, CEO, and COO did not know of the incident, the club was responsible for the actions of its senior employees.
For reference, pick 17 is worth 1,025 draft points.
Allan and Lambert were both suspended for one year, while Whitfield was banned for seven matches.
GWS says it is disappointed, but accepts the decision.
