Gerard Healy and Matthew Richardson dismiss calls for Tom Boyd to take a pay cut
AFL greats Gerard Healy and Matthew Richardson have questioned those calling for Tom Boyd to take a pay cut.
The Western Bulldogs forward is under growing scrutiny due to the size of his contract.
It’s been suggested by some that Boyd hand back some of his pay to help ease pressure.
But Healy said it wouldn’t change a thing.
‘The only thing that will change the pressure that Tom is under is if he performs,’ he explained on Sports Today.
‘There’s no difference between getting a million and not performing and $1.1 million or thereabouts.’
Richo agreed. He said it’d be little more than a symbolic gesture.
‘I don’t really think it’s going to make much difference, at all,’ the Richmond great said.
‘It’s not going to release salary cap pressure for the Bulldogs to recruit players.’
