Georgia, 18, tells Neil Mitchell why she’s so eager to vote in the election
A teenage girl who missed election enrolment by one day says she’s desperate to vote on behalf of her late grandfather.
Georgia told Neil Mitchell she had recently turned 18 and was under the impression she’d be fine to enrol after her birthday, citing advice on the Australian Electoral Commission website.
But she’d since been told otherwise by electoral officials.
Georgia’s Pop died in November last year and they often spoke about politics.
‘To be able to vote on behalf of my pop is a really big honour,’ she said emotionally on 3AW Mornings.
‘I think a lot of young people these days are looking more at the little issues and not the big issues we’re facing.’
