Port Adelaide premiership coach Mark Williams played a significant part in helping Tex Wanganeen claim a spot on Essendon’s list, his father Gavin has revealed.

Former Essendon and Port Adelaide champion Wanganeen joined 3AW on Thursday night after his son secured a rookie spot through the pre-season supplemental selection period.

Wanganeen said son Tex, 18, had been working with Williams on weekends over the summer.

“If you’re listening mate, you know you’re a part of it, brother,” he said.

Wanganeen said Tex had speed and footy nous and expected him to eventually become a midfielder.
