Suns star Gary Ablett had 34 touches and 11 clearances in another brilliant performance.
Ablett told 3AW after the game he requested more time in the midfield from Rodney Eade.
‘I went to see ‘Rocket’ after the GWS game and said, ‘put me in there, back me in’,’ Ablett said.
‘I just went into his office and we spoke about it.’

HALF TIME
Carlton leads by five points after an even first half.
Suns spearhead Tom Lynch has five goals to his name already.
3AW analyst Daniel Harford said the Blues were defending Suns star Gary Ablett well.
‘He has 16 disposals, and 14 in the defensive half,’ he said.
‘They’re happy to let Gary get as much ball as they like in the back half. Then they can defend him going forward.’
Harf said he was captivated by Carlton debutant Zac Fisher’s second quarter.

Gold Coast CEO Mark Evans spoke to 3AW Football before the game.
He said there’s enough interest in Aussie Rules in southern Queensland to sustain two clubs.
‘Most people who live on the Gold Coast probably barracked for someone else, and then they became enraptured that they had a team,’ Evans said.
‘If you do the work for long enough, you get their kids, and you start building the basis of a club out of that.’

Carlton assistant John Barker spoke to 3AW before the game.
He described debutant Zac Fisher as a ‘Jack Russell’.
‘He loves winning hard ball, he loves tackling, which midfield coaches love,’ he said.
Barker also said people shouldn’t judge Dale Thomas on his pre-injury form.

The Blues and Suns broke through for their first win of the season in Round 3.
Both were impressive, in very different ways.
The Blues won in a hard, tough, wet contest over archrival Essendon, while the Suns were too slick and polished for the Hawks.
The two sides have a taste for victory, and both will be out to double up on Saturday night.
