Frustration over fine from EPA

A Bayswater man says he’s been hit with a hefty fine from the EPA for throwing a cigarette butt out of the window of a car.

There’s a few problems.

One, he doesn’t smoke.

Secondly, he wasn’t driving at the time.

Damian Murray told 3AW the $634 popped up in the mail.

Understandably, he followed it up.

He’s been told it’s up to him to prove his innocence – the reverse of normal justice.

“They didn’t want to hear anything I had to say, basically,” Damian said.
