‘Frightening to see’: Alarming trauma spike at The Alfred
There’s been an alarming spike in the number of critically injured patients treated at The Alfred this year, and staff are concerned about a further rise over the festive season.
The Alfred treated more than 4430 trauma patients between January and November this year, up from 3914 during the same period last year.
Deputy director of emergency services at The Alfred, Dr Rohan Laging, says there’s a spike in traumas every December, and it’s “frightening to see”.
