Formula One champion Alan Jones says being rejected by Ferrari was a blessing
Former Formula One champion Alan Jones told 3AW’s Denis Walter that being rejected by Ferrari left him with few options, but it turned out be a blessing.
“In a round about sort of way they [Ferrari] did me a favour, because I got to drive for Frank and Patrick, and they built the FW07 which was probably one of the best ground effects cars of its time. They gave me the tool to become world champion,” he said.
Alan also spoke to Denis about his childhood, and how he rose from building billy carts and racing them down Yongala Street in Balwyn, to becoming Formula One World Champion.
But racing isn’t Alan’s only talent, it turns out that he’s also a bit of a cupid. Callers Carole and Tim rang to say that Alan introduced them on a blind date 50 years ago, and they’re still together today.
