Former police officer jailed for 19 years for abusing young children

A former police officer, who’s pleaded guilty to sexually abusing nine children, has been jailed for 19 years.

The court heard the man, now aged in his 60s, abused children as young as five, from the late 1960s to the early 1980s. 

He’s pleaded guilty to 18 charges, including rape, against victims including his step children and family friends. 

In statements to the court, the victims detailed their inability to trust, and spoke of having their childhood and innocence taken away.

One said he kept quiet about the abuse, because the 66 year old threatened to kill his mother and sisters.

The man, who was a serving Victoria Police officer from 1968 until 1979 resigned when allegations were made against him. 

He’ll serve a minimum of 15 years.
