A former head of Victoria Police’s Homicide Squad has revealed he had a brush with the law as a child.

Former detective Mick Hughes made the revelation while speaking on new podcast, Neil Mitchell Asks Why.

“I remember getting a smack from a policeman … later in my career [I] reminded him!,” the former Homicide Squad boss said.

In a fascinating interview with Neil Mitchell, Mick Hughes also shared why he stays in touch with victims, why he’s so open about his mental health issues and why everything he went through in the police force was worth it.
