Former AFL umpire ‘confused’ by Laura Kane’s explanation on recent controversy
Former AFL umpire Dean Margetts admits he’s confused by the AFL’s explanation on now paying a 50m penalty to Bailey Scott in the dying stages of North Melbourne’s loss to Collingwood last Sunday.
Speaking with Sam McClure and Leigh Matthews on Wide World of Sports, the veteran official said the “chaotic” scene which unfolded at Marvel Stadium last weekend meant umpires were in a no win situation.

“I’m confused (about Laura Kane’s reasoning),” he said on 3AW.
“It’s a chaotic scene – we’ve seen a lot of decisions that could technically be free kicks but could footy feel have been applied. When we apply footy feed we get admonished and when we apply technical free kicks, we get cracked as well.”
