Eddie Maguire has weighed in on the latest drug allegations coming out of the AFL following the shock reveal in federal parliament last night.

He says it’s not a new issue and the policies were designed to stop players from playing while positive for performance enhancing drugs, including cocaine.

“So, forget all the hysteria about all that … that was exactly the way that it was designed to work,” he told Jacqui Felgate.

He also says he wasn’t allowed to ask if players were on drugs.

“Don’t forget, the clubs have no say … I wasn’t allowed to know,” he said.

Former Hawthorn Football Club President, Jeff Kennett, says the current policies don’t work well.

“The AFL is going to have to decide, whether they’re going to adopt the Olympic standard … if they’re not serious about having a drug policy, then don’t have one at all!” he said.
