Australia has refused a request from Ukraine to donate its out-of-commission Taipan helicopter fleet for use as air ambulances.

Australia’s 45 helicopters will instead be dismantled, stripped and buried, with Pat Conroy, who is standing in for the Defence Minister, claiming it’s “not feasible” to return the aircraft to an operational state.

But Director of Strategic Analysis Australia, Peter Jennings, who is a former Australian Defence Force deputy secretary for strategy, says “we’ve got is a defence department that couldn’t be bothered”.
