Football legend torches animal rights group over request to change Bulldogs name, mascot

Footscray legend Doug Hawkins has taken animal rights group PETA to task after they requested the Western Bulldogs to change their name and retire their popular mascots.

A PETA campaign advisor wrote to Western Bulldogs president Kylie Watson-Wheeler, requesting them to change their nickname and look for alternative mascots.

“That is just ridiculous,” Doug Hawkins said in response on 3AW Drive.

“It’s a load of rubbish.”
