At least five people who were at the MCG on Monday for the Boxing Day Test have returned positive results on rapid antigen tests.

They’re still awaiting PCR test results which will determine whether any other cricket fans will need to isolate as close contact.

Today Show reporter Izabella Staskowski says her understanding is the five people were all from the same group.

“My understanding is this group wasn’t symptomatic or wasn’t sick while they were in attendance,” she told 3AW Breakfast.

It comes as Victoria today recorded a new daily COVID-19 record, with 3767 new cases from 75,123 tests.

It’s a significant jump from the the 2738 recorded yesterday.

Five additional people have also died as a result of the virus.
