Firefighters are desperately working to contain an out of control fire in central Victoria today ahead of a heatwave.

The fire, which has been burning at Flowerdale, north of Melbourne, has burnt through 840 hectares.

Today Show reporter at the scene, Izabella Staskowski, says authorities are concerned about challenging conditions today.

“They say it’s going to be hot and windy in the area which means there’s an elevated risk,” she told Ross and Russel.

“It’s really a bit of a race to contain this as soon as possible because now it’s been out of control for three days.”

A Watch and Act message is in place for Dairy Creek, Flowerdale, Homewood, Kerrisdale, Strath Creek and Strath Creek along Upper King Parrot Creek Road.
