Fire crews battle Brunswick blaze
Fire crews are working to contain a blaze in Brunswick that is sending huge plumes of smoke into the air.
Residents in nearby units have had to evacuate and there’s an alert from the fire brigade for the heavy smoke in the area.
The fire is believed to be located in a series factories on Albert Street, off Sydney Road.
Up to 50 firefighters have been called in.
Sydney Road is closed between Victoria Street and Glenlyon Road.
Trams are also affected.
Witness Blair Hughes told 3AW News there was ‘lots of smoke’ up to 40 metres high.
