FULL TIME: Geelong 15.8 (98) def Sydney 5.9 (39)
Geelong has ended Sydney’s season with a 59-point belting.
Patrick Dangerfield booted four goals, while Mitch Duncan (36 touches, 14 marks, two goals) and Sam Menegola (26 touches, eight tackles, two goals) were influential.
But Tony Shaw told 3AW he was particularly impressed by much-maligned speedster Steven Motlop.
“He showed his class tonight, but I was rapt with his defensive side and I think the coach would be the same,” Shawry said.
Matthew Lloyd said there was hardly a good player on the night for the Swans.
55,529 fans braved the rainy conditions on Friday night.
This will be Sydney/South Melbourne’s lowest score in a final since they scored 4.15.39 v Essendon in 1924 @3AWisfootball

HALF TIME
Geelong leads by 36 points at the main break.
Patrick Dangerfield has been dominant in attack, having already booted four goals.
But Tony Shaw saved special praise for one of his teammates.
“I said Steven Motlop had to stand up tonight. He needed to make his mark in a final and he’s done that,” Shawry said.
Motlop has had 13 disposals and laid three tackles.

Geelong has been dealt a heavy blow before the match.
Tom Lonergan, who so often has got the better of Swans forward Lance Franklin, is out with illness. Rhys Stanley has come into the side.
Sydney will line up unchanged.
Geelong assistant coach and defensive legend Matthew Scarlett said Harry Taylor will fill the void left by Lonergan.
“Harry was going to start forward tonight,” Scarlett said.
“It’s a luxury to have an All-Australian play up the other end.”
