The future of some of Bright’s iconic trees is under threat.

A developer has put forward a proposal to cut down some of the trees lining Great Alpine Road heading into the town. But locals won’t let them go without a fight — they’ve started a petition to save the trees.

Neil Mitchell says they’re “magnificent” and well-worth saving.

“I know people who drive from Melbourne to see those trees!,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

Petition organiser Leanne Boyd says it’s not clear how many trees the developer wants to remove.

“The developers want a 30 metre wide entrance into their estate — that’s the length of a basketball court.”

A council decision on the proposal will be made on April 16.
