Fifteen-year-old boy seriously injured in vile South Melbourne tram attack
A 15-year-old Eltham boy has had his head stomped on in a horrific tram assault.
The boy was travelling on the tram in South Melbourne with his girlfriend at about 9.15pm on Saturday, April 23.
Two men boarded the tram near Ferrars Street and started harassing the boy’s girlfriend.
The victim defended his girlfriend, becoming involved in a verbal altercation with the pair.
He was then assaulted, with the pair stomping on his head a number of times.
The tram stopped, and the offenders, believed to be in aged in their 40s, fled.
The boy was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.
Detective Senior Constable Megan Fisher from the Victoria Police Transit Safety Division described the assault as “horrific”.
“You have, in effect, children involved, and you have grown men — adults — inflicting this kind of violence on young people,” she told Neil Mitchell.
“It’s highly concerning.”
