First responder shares harrowing account of Texas primary school shooting

At least 19 children and two adults have been killed in a horrific shooting at a Texas elementary school.

An 18-year-old gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Ulvade, in south-central Texas.

All of the deceased children are in grades 2, 3 and 4.

The gunman was shot dead by police at the scene.

The tragedy is the deadliest school shooting in Texas history and the most deadly in the United States since the Sandy Hook school shooting almost a decade ago.

Volunteer first responder Ernest W. ‘Chip’ King III says he’s “not sure how he (the shooter) got into the school so easily”.

“The schools are very good at shutting down,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“Were constantly having these high speed chases and bail outs within town, so the schools go into lockdown probably once a week, maybe more.”

Mr King says the shooting went on for at least 45 minutes.

“Actually when we got there the shooting was still going on,” he said.
