Feral deer population moving closer and closer to Melbourne
There are plans to ramp up deer culling on the outskirts of Melbourne, with the feral animals beginning to invade suburbs closer and closer to the city.
It follows recent sightings in Kew and Ivanhoe.
One deer was even filmed running down Johnston Street, Fitzroy, in June last year.
State government estimates suggest there could be as many as one million deer roaming the state.
Dean lives in The Basin area and told Neil Mitchell a culler recently told him he was being called as close to the city as he’d ever been called.
“I’m not expert, but I think they need to get into the bush, flush them out, and really give them a hard go,” he said.
Dean said the destruction the animals caused on the environment was of great concern.
