Federal Greens MP takes aim at negative gearing for ‘turbo-charging’ house prices
A federal Greens MP and spokesperson for housing has criticised tax concessions for their role in boosting house prices.
Max Chandler-Mather says tax concessions such as negative gearing and capital gains discounts will cost the federal government $1.5 trillion over the next ten years.
“If you’re a first-home buyer … and you’re competing against a property investor, and they get to tap into those billions of dollars of tax concessions, more often than not, the first-home buyer loses,” he told Tom Elliott.
