Federal election trends with Australian economy
History suggests that the economy tends to decline during the time of a federal election.
It is nothing drastic, but with differences in capital gains and negative gearing, Australians tend not to put their hands in their pockets as often.
Ross Greenwood spoke to Shane Oliver, chief economist AMP Capital investors about economy trends during an election.
‘There is evidence to say it slows down a little bit,’ he said.
‘We have seen a bit more evidence that people are becoming a bit more cautious about things.’
