Fatal truck crash forces closure of Western Freeway
A fatal truck crash forced the closure of the Western Freeway in Ballarat for several hours on Thursday.
A B-double truck appears to have veered off the road near the Midland Highway overpass and onto the Ballarat-Maryborough railway line.
The truck driver, a 28-year-old from Truganina, died at the scene.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
The Western Freeway was closed in both directions between the Midland Highway and Ballarat-Burrumbeet Road while emergency services worked to clear the scene.
Trains between Maryborough and Ballarat were also replaced with coaches.
There have been 188 lives lost on Victoria’s roads this year, compared to 160 at the same time last year.
