Families petition council in south-east to vote against decision which will have ‘devastating impact’
Glen Eira City council will meet tonight to vote on the closure of three childcare centres in the area.
Katerina, whose children attend a centre in the area, says families are counting on the council to keep the centres open.
“We’ve had over 9000 people sign a petition, we’ve had countless members from the community shout from the rooftops that we want the centres open for many years to come,” she told Tony Jones.

She also says there are concerns the closures of the centres will have a devastating impact on the community.
“We’ve been told this is driven by profit, because councils aren’t mandated to provide child-care … but this is the thing that they do so well, and councils set the standard … and we don’t want this to have a flow-on effect,” she said.
