Secretary of the Victorian Police Association, Wayne Gatt, has shed light on the first police walkout in 25 years, as the war over a new pay deal intensifies with the state government.

Police officers will walk off the job from Thursday, but the police union boss has assured the public that their safety won’t be compromised.

“This will be uncomfortable for the government, it will be uncomfortable for Victoria Police command,” Gatt told Ross and Russ on 3AW Breakfast.

He also claimed for the last three months, the police association has not been able to engage with Victoria Police or the state government over the pay dispute.

“This has been an excruciating process,” he said.

“Not a conversation, not a breath, nothing.”
