Evacuation of parts of Maribyrnong ‘getting quite urgent’
An evacuation order is in place for parts of Maribyrnong in Melbourne’s west, as the Maribyrnong River rises rapidly.
3AW reporter on the scene, Pat Mitchell, says the situation is “getting quite urgent”.
“There’s some houses that have already been inundated and it’s just a matter of time,” he told Ross and Russel.
“Certainly there are some people a few hundred metres away from the river that probably didn’t think they’d be in this situation.”
Some residents in Burton Crescent, Chiefly Drive, Clyde Street, Duffy Street, Ensign Street, Leopold Street, Navigation Street, Oakland Street, Raleigh Road, Newstead Street, The Esplanade and Van Ness Avenue have been told to leave immediately.

Evacuated resident Steve says he checked the river this morning and when he returned 15 minutes later it had “already gone up four metres”.
