Etiquette guru explains why Obamas shouldn’t be invited to Royal Wedding, says your wedding is NOT about you
British agencies have urged Prince Harry and Meghan Markle not to invite the Obamas to their wedding in fear of enraging Donald Trump.
And an etiquette expert says it’s completely understandable.
Prince Harry developed a friendship with Barack Obama when he was president and reportedly wants the former US leader at the wedding.
But British government bureaucrats are concerned about how President Trump will react.
“You’re not going to like this … but it’s realistic,” Anna Musson from The Good Manners Company told 3AW Breakfast.
“I can understand where they’re coming from because they aren’t just dealing with aunties and uncles, but world peace!”
Ms Musson had news for those who think they can invite whoever they want to “their” wedding.
“The reality is a wedding used to be something that was a public declaration of your private commitment,” she explained.
“The reason we had weddings was so the community was a witness to your betrothal.
“What’s happened is that has reversed and couples getting married today are now saying – ‘it’s my day, I’ll do what I like’ – when in fact, weddings should be all about everybody else.”
She also said “wishing wells” were a big no-no.
“Don’t jump on the bandwagon, it’s tacky and nasty,” she said.
“If you’ve got everything then say no gifts, please.”
