Essendon’s presence on Good Friday guarantees big crowd, according to Sportsday co-host
Dwayne Russell is happy Essendon has been allocated the coveted Good Friday fixture.
They’lll take on North Melbourne in 2019 after the Bulldogs (2017) and Saints (2018) both played the Roos in previous seasons.
And next year, West Coast will host Port Adelaide as part of the first-ever Good Friday double header.
The Sportsday co-host said the Bombers’ presence would guarantee a bumper crowd at Marvel Stadium.
“Some people are saying Essendon are getting too many blockbusters but we needed a crowd on Good Friday,” he said.
“If it’s going to work, you need a team who’s going to pull a crowd.
“It’s disappointing for Bulldogs fans who aren’t going to be involved in the creation of a new blockbuster but with four states now involved (in the day), it should work a little better.”
