Radio host Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli has welcomed the federal government’s plan to raise to ban social media for kids under 16.

Ahead of a cabinet meeting, the Albanese government has outlined their intention to raise the legal limit to use platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat.

Mr Wipfli – who has campaigned and launched a petition on the dangers of social media – told Jacqui Felgate momentum for his campaign was building after Thursday’s announcement.

“This is the largest petition on this topic globally,” he said on 3AW Drive.

“There’s so many motivated parents who have simply said enough is enough and we want to be heard.”
