Emilia reviews a Healesville restaurant that’s worth travelling for

From the RACV Healesville Country Club and Resort… Ross, Russ and I piled into the complimentary shuttle bus to Lilydale Road with the tip that we must try No7 (it is Number 7 by address too) — 7 Lilydale Rd, Healesville.

Healesville is only an hour from Melbourne, 30 mins from Ringwood way. For a beautiful place like this, it is completely worth the travel. They have a moving menu, shared-style from head chef Joel Bowers, and share we did. The menu focuses on the best seasonal ingredients along with varied cuisine types, backgrounds, flavours, they pair with beautiful organic wines from around the world.

No7 is the fourth restaurant in the Stones of the Yarra Valley and Meletos family. I walked in with my mouth agape at the converted factory that opened at the beginning of 2019, the project was initially to house an urban winery for young winemakers to launch their labels. 

They have four dining spaces and they all have a different feel. We saw the outdoor, open, brick bbq space, the indoor light and bright-feeling cafe style chairs and the back behind antique glass windows and enjoyed a beautiful light red from the Yarra Valley along with fresh food. 

We had saussicon — which is my favourite food In. The. World. — it’s French sausage, which they paired it with pickled peppers.

We were all pleasantly surprised by the thyluda, which is basically a big corn chip with avocado and baked ricotta.

We weren’t sure if we were getting some Louis Armstrong tacos, but no – we realised pretty quickly it was fish tacos. Meaty wish fish with a light batter sat on a bed of pumpkin crema and topped with sprouts slaw.

We also tried the lamb skewer which were a touch spicy for Ross but thoroughly enjoyed by spice lovers in Russ and I. Bursting with Mediterranean inspired flavours.

They’re open Thursday-Sunday, as a lot of places down there are, and it’s directly across from the massive Four Pillars Distillery, which you must go over and have a drink at!

They had the best choice of desserts: Basque cheesecake or churros. If you’re a sweet tooth, you know dessert choices don’t get much better.

Mains were all above $30 and entree / share plates around $20.
