‘Never been so angry’: A mum’s fury over Royal Children’s Hospital protest
The mother of an 11-year-old being treated for cancer at the Royal Children’s Hospital has backed calls from an emergency doctor to make hospitals protest exclusion zones.
It comes after about 200 anti-vax protesters blocked the entrances of the Royal Children’s Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Royal Women’s Hospital on Saturday.
Karly Kirk, who had to be guided by police into the hospital, says she’s “never been so angry”.
“Every single family in this hospital is having a shit time of it right now,” she told Neil Mitchell.
“It should be an exclusion zone. There’s no way anybody needs this at any of these major Melbourne hospitals.”

Dr Stephen Parnis says the protesters “crossed a line”.
He’s calling for exclusion zones outside hospitals to prevent future repeats of the disgusting behaviour.
“You cannot reason with them. They behave like cults, they do this for everything other than scientific reasons,” he told Neil Mitchell.
“Because you can’t reason with them … you have to try and sideline them.
“If they want to protest, which is an important right, then they need to do that well away from places where people need emergency care.”
