Donald Trump bans transgender people from serving in military
Donald Trump has sparked outrage by declaring that the United States would no longer “accept or allow” transgender people in the military.
It comes just a year after Barack Obama’s administration announced transgender people could serve openly in the military.
President Trump made the controversial announcement in a series of tweets.
He said he’d come to the decision after speaking with generals and military experts.
“Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you,” Trump said.
