The family dog which killed a toddler in Neerim Junction this morning has been euthanised.

The girl, aged 14 months, was attacked by the German Wirehaired Pointer (breed pictured above) about 6.20am at their Neerim North Road home.

An air ambulance landed at the scene about 8am but the girl died at the scene.

“Mum tried to intervene and couldn’t do anything,” Channel Seven reporter Michael Scanlan told Neil Mitchell from the scene.

The dog, the family pet of six years, was voluntarily surrendered to Baw Baw Council and euthanised at the owners request this afternoon.
