Docklands architect warns against turning Melbourne into a high-rise city
The architect behind Melbourne’s Docklands Library has warned against high-rise apartments in Melbourne.
Sydney based architect Professor Kerry Clare says high rises from 20 to 90 stories create social isolation, are not energy efficient, and overshadow large areas.
Prof Clare says there’s evidence that high rises increase inequity.
‘You get more small businesses and more people are prosperous,’ she said.
‘The cities are also more resilient.’
