Daniel Andrews joins push to mobilise ‘hidden army’ of older workers
Daniel Andrews has joined the push to mobilise the “grey army” in a bid to fill the nation’s skills shortage.
Neil Mitchell has been campaigning for it to happen for months.
The Premier will argue to raise the migration cap at the federal government’s jobs and skills summit.
Mr Andrews says the pension rate should also be reassessed.
“We have a social security system that locks people out of a few extra shifts a week that they might want to do,” he said.
“I think that’s a luxury we probably can’t afford.
“To be blocking people from doing a shift, or two, a week – where they want to – that’s a luxury I don’t think our economy, post-COVID, can afford.”
