Daniel Andrews announces 40 Corrections Victoria staff will be deployed at Malmsbury and Parkville
Corrections Victoria staff will be deployed to the state’s youth jails.
Premier Daniel Andrews announced the government’s plan in detail on Friday, two days after 15 inmates escaped the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre.
The Premier said about 40 Corrections Victoria staff would be deployed at both Malmsbury and Parkville.
The officers, who normally work in adult jails, will be authorised to use weapons to restore calm in the event of trouble.
Mr Andrews said he was confident the proposal would withstand any legal challenge.
Human rights lawyers have already indicated they’ll oppose the move.
