Cricket Victoria hits back at ‘political correctness’ claims

Cricket Victoria has hit back at suggestions it got rid of its famous “Bushrangers” nickname due to political correctness.

Victoria’s domestic teams will now be known as the Victorian Men’s Team and Victorian Women’s Team respectively.

It led to plenty of debate, with former Victorian star Simon O’Donnell branding it a “waste of time”.

In a statement released on Thursday, Cricket Victoria said it wanted to “clear up” a number of things.

“The decision was not about political correctness,” it read.

“We’re here to play and promote cricket.”
