Council considers extra seating at park for cultural reasons
There is a push for more seating at a park in Dandenong South, with cultural sensitivities driving the proposal.
But a Greens councillor from Greater Dandenong Council denies it’s promoting segregation.
Greens councillor Rhonda Garad said she supported extra seating to allow Muslim men and women to sit separately.
“We would be providing extra seating – not segregated seating,” she told Tom Elliott.
Cr Garad said it was not her business to tell people how those seats were used.
“I’m not going to tell people how to feel comfortable,” she said.
