Could Melbourne follow North Sydney and become a total smoke-free zone?
North Sydney Council this week unanimously passed their Mayor’s recommendation to made it the first smoke-free CBD in Australia.
Cr. Jilly Gibson, Mayor of North Sydney, told Kate and Quarters she has not had a single piece of negative feedback from residents.
“No smoking on streets, in our plazas, you can’t smoke anywhere in public places,” Cr Gibson said.
“100 per cent positive, I haven’t had any negative feedback whatsoever.”

“We do hand out the odd fine, I think it’s about $60 off the top of my head, not many but we do,” she said.
“We want to make it a really pedestrian-friendly CBD, we want them to have a really pleasant experience.”
