Cost of living blamed for David Jones sales decrease

The soaring cost of living and its impact on family budget is being blamed as the reason for a sharp downturn in spending after David Jones announced a double digit downturn in sales.

Chief industry affairs officer at the Australian Retailers Association, Fleur Brown, says businesses are finding it tough with the cost of living but it’s not the only factor at play.

“We’ve got the rising cost of doing business – which is just too much unfortunately for some small businesses in particular to be able to weather that storm after a couple of years of really difficult times through the pandemic as well,” she told Elise Elliott.
