Conservatives leader calls out ‘great failings’ of major parties
Australian Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi has hit out at the major parties for “one of the great failings of modern politics”.
It comes in response to the release of a 400-page report into the energy sector from the Australia Competition and Consumer Commission.
Senator Bernardi tells Chris Kenny the Turnbull government’s policies on energy are “uneconomic”.
“Because of the subsidies, when the wind is blowing and the sun is shining, they render other forms of baseload generation uneconomic.
“If the mission is to drive industry off-shore so that we’ve got plenty of renewable energy for the consumers that are left… that is what the government policies are effectively doing.
“Well, we don’t want that.
He calls out the PM and his government, who he claims have “gone to great lengths” to talk about all forms of energy generation, “yet haven’t mentioned the word nuclear at all”.
“One of the great failings of modern politics is that the two major parties are so risk-adverse that they’re prepared to sacrifice the long-term future of the country for short-term political advantage.”
