Concerning Easter ‘strike rate’ on Victoria’s roads
A police superintendent says Victoria “shouldn’t be proud” of a disturbing “strike rate” on Victoria’s roads over the Easter period.
Police conducted 70,000 breath tests and found one-in-318 were over the prescribed alcohol limit.
Victoria Police superintendent John Fitzpatrick says it’s a higher strike rate than usual.
“Often we see these strike rates around 450 … which is still not good but 318, you know, it’s something we shouldn’t be proud of,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.
Superintendent Fitzpatrick urged motorists to take care on the roads today, with much of the state copping a downpour overnight and more heavy rain forecast today.
“We’re going to experience some bad weather in Victoria today,” he said.
“If you’re uncomfortable travelling at the posted speed, travel at a speed you’re comfortable with, considering the weather conditions and the other users on the road. So if it’s posted at 100 and you’re only comfortable doing 80 kilometres – do 80.”
