City of Yarra to trial 30km/h speed limit in Fitzroy

UPDATE: The City of Yarra’s controversial trial of 30km/h speed limits in Fitzroy will go ahead after a move to block the proposal failed.

A section of the ‘Rose Precinct’ – between Alexandra Parade and Smith, Nicholson and Johnston Streets – will be subjected to the limit, set to be introduced in the second half of 2017.

Council had been divided over the issue, first uncovered by 3AW Drive earlier this month.

‘It’s about public safety,’ City of Yarra Mayor Roberto Colanzi told Tom Elliott on February 3.
