City of Melbourne appoints ‘heat officers’
Melbourne City Council has appointed two ‘Chief Heat Officers’ in a bid to combat the effects of climate change.
Lord mayor Sally Capp says the initiative is about “really bringing a focus and attention” to what the city is doing to help residents stay cool during extreme weather.
Councillor Capp told Neil Mitchell the Chief Heat Officers were already employed by the council as directors of climate change and resilience, and won’t be payed extra for taking on the new heat officer title.
