Cask wine on the decline
The great Aussie goon bag is on the decline, as drinkers move towards better quality wines.
BWS sales figures show the iconic silver pillow is doing it tough as Aussies shift to drinking less but better, the cask wine category declining by around 5 per cent annually.
Melbourne University lecturer in wine technology Chris Barnes told 3AW Breakfast it’s a trend reflected globally.
“It is a bit disturbing considering it’s one of the great Australian inventions,” Chris said.
“What’s happening with wine consumption worldwide is we’re drinking less in terms of volume but more in terms of quality.”
